Don’t Try This at Home !

CBC news in Canada is reporting the extraordinary story of a woman from Prince Edward Island who states that an onion was what saved her life whilst going into anaphylactic shock.

Bonita Lynn Nichols is allergic to bee stings. She was stung three times whilst out and about. She does not carry an EpiPen as she cannot afford it. Therefore, she rushed to the nearest store where she explained her situation. The staff wanted to call for emergency medical help but she insisted that they get her onion juice instead. The staff did as requested and squeezed juice from the onion onto her legs where the stings were.

This was not the first time that Nicholls had used onions to deal with stings so she knew that the home remedy works for her but she said in relation to the store staff that “Mostly I admire them for not questioning the onion”.

The Ontario Ministry of Health say

“people with known allergies to insect stings should always carry an insect sting allergy kit and wear a medical ID bracelet or necklace stating their allergy”.
