How to Reduce Stress in Everyday Life

Breathe in, breathe out. Find your center. Relax. If you’ve said these words to yourself recently, then it’s probably time to de-stress. In today’s world, we are all busy quickly going here and there, rushing to finish a deadline, and fighting traffic. With so many demands on our daily lives, it’s no wonder that we are all so stressed! Take a look at some of the ways you can reduce stress in your daily life.

1. Identify your stress triggers.

Do you get stressed when you have a big project at work? Does your “to-do” list overwhelm you? Are you easily frustrated in traffic? Think about what is going on in your life when you start to feel stressed. The first step to reducing stress in your life is to identify where the stress is coming from.

2. Write down your stress.

Now that you know what is triggering your stress, write it down. Keep a journal of all the stress triggers in your life. Writing your stress down will help you to feel more in control. You can also release some of the stress simply by writing it down in a notebook or journal.

3. Ask for help.

There’s no shame in asking for help from other people. When you start to feel overwhelmed, delegate some of your everyday tasks to your husband or your children. Let someone else help you so there’s less for you to worry about.

4. Just say no.

This isn’t just good advice for avoiding drugs! You can say “no” to help reduce your stress. If someone asks you to do a favor or drive the carpool and you are already feeling like you have too much on your plate, don’t feel bad about saying no. Know your limits and stick to them.

5. Practice yoga.

Practice yoga, meditation, or pilates. Taking some time out of your day to go to a quiet room and focus on your health is a great way to relieve stress. The peace and quiet and the concentration on your breathing will help calm you down.

6. Go on vacation.

A vacation is a wonderful way to escape the everyday and relax. If the thoughts of leaving home for a week or so makes you more stressed out, then go away for the weekend. Even a little bit of time away from your everyday responsibilities will help you to relax and unwind.

7. Get a massage.

Treat yourself to a massage or a facial. Letting someone work the knots and the kinks out of your muscles is very calming. Plus, when your body is relaxed, your mind is relaxed.

8. Purge your life.

Are you surrounded by negative people? Are you unhappy with your job? A toxic environment can really add extra stress in your life. Avoid the people who don’t have a good thing to say or quit your job. You’ll love the freedom that comes when you purge your life.

Stress has many negative effects on our bodies. Take some time everyday to relax and avoid the stressful situations. Find out what your sanity savers are. You’ll look and feel better when you have less stress in your life. What do you do for stress relief?
