Medic Alert Charms: Charming Functionality and Importance

Where to Wear
Fully adaptable to shoe ties, watch or key fobs, charm bracelets, or even necklaces, medical alert charms can match virtually any adornment need. So long as the medical alert charm is secure and visible to medical personnel, there is no hard and fast rule dictating how alert charms should be worn.

However, wearing medical alert tags on actual charm bracelets with popular charm collections would seem to defeat its purpose. Unless one specifically knows to look at the commercial charm bracelet for a medical alert charm, its inclusion would easily and understandably be overlooked.

Visibility is the primary concern. If the charm isn’t seen and recognized as a medical alert device, it might as well be left home.

Engrave or Plain
Because most alert charms are so small, much like a mini-medallion, very little space is available for information engraving. Having the medic alert symbol with no information otherwise notable exacerbates tense situations, because health care professionals have no idea what condition is applicable.

Commonly, if medical alert charms don’t provide adequate space, supplemental medallions are welded to the back for enlarged availability. If the wearer declines the expansion, the medical alert charm should always at a minimum complement another alert method, such as a medical alert necklace or wallet card, and direct the viewer to the exact alert device that contains full information.
