Finding the Right  Supplemental Insurance

Medicare supplement insurance companies offer the same products. Many companies try to convince consumers that they offer a unique package. However, the government regulates what a company can offer in all supplemental insurance plans. The biggest difference a consumer will find is the price they pay. One insurance company can offer a plan at a significant savings when compared to another. The smart consumer will shop around and find the best premium for the plan for which they want to sign up. It can be very shocking for someone to see the wide range of premiums available for the same product in the same community.

Medicare regulators provide guidelines for a dozen different Medicare supplement plans. Most people know these plans by the letters A through N. Each of these plans offers a slightly different combination of benefits. The first step to deciding which plan works best is to figure out what each plan offers. Most Medicare supplement insurance companies offer several if not all of these different supplemental plans. Some plans cover more than others. The more coverage involved usually translates to a higher premium as well. Every consumer should take the time to shop around before signing up with the company. It can save those hundreds if not thousands of dollars every year.

As soon as you become eligible for Medicare, it is important to begin searching for the right supplemental insurance. Once you sign up for part B Medicare, you have six months in which to find a plan and sign up. If you wait past that point, an insurance company can reject you for pre-existing conditions. Also, the older you are when you sign up, the higher your insurance premiums will get. Married couples have to buy a supplemental insurance separately just as they have to pay Medicare premiums separately. Medicare supplement insurance companies sometimes offer discounts in communities or in families. Do your homework to take advantage of all discounts.

Smart consumers should examine Medicare supplement insurance companies as they would any other insurance company. Make sure that the provider is on good financial grounds. Speak with an agent and see the benefit options as well as the premium costs. Taking the time to do your homework leads to a great deal of saving in premiums as well as time. Finding an insurance company that has a good customer relations reputation is important as well.

If I cancel my present Medicare Supplemental insurance because of increased cost, can I sign up with a different company during any enrollment period?
