5 Health Tips to Conceive
Have you decided that it is time to try to get pregnant, and add another member to your family? The chances are that your decision was preceded by a long journey of soul searching, and that your partner and you discussed the right timing to try for a baby for a while. Emotional and financial factors play a large role in deciding when the time is right to attempt to conceive. But how about your health?
Both maternal and paternal health are very important, and being as healthy as you can possibly be means giving your future baby the best start in life. What are the things that you need to take into account before ditching the birth control?
1 ) Your lifestyle choices are a great place place under the magnifying glass to start with. Both wannabe mothers and future fathers increase their chances of conceiving if they do not drink alcohol, and don’t smoke. And because you never know when you will conceive, making sure that you don’t smoke and drink ensures that your tiny embryo won’t be exposed to substances that are shown to have a negative impact on its health and chances of survival.
2 ) The foods you eat can either boost your fertility or be detrimental to your chances of conceiving. Eating lots of fresh vegetables and fruit, full-dat dairy products, and Omega 3 fatty acids promote fetal health and might just make getting pregnant easier. Trans fats and large amounts of processed foods are best avoided.
3) Get tested for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Even if you have been monogamous for years, knowing that you have a clean bill of health can avoid a lot of problems later on, and means that you can try to conceive a baby with no worries.
4) Women trying to conceive can start taking prenatal vitamins and folic acid supplements around a month before they start attempting to get pregnant. These supplements take a while to start working. Cod Liver Oil is another wonderful supplement that both partners can use to boost their fertility and promote general health.
5) Get to know your cycle intimately, and know when your most fertile days are. You can achieve this in a variety of ways. Using an ovulation calendar to determine the approximate timing of your ovulation, and then checking if you are truly fertile on those days with the help of ovulation tests is one of them, while charting to conceive using basal body temperature is another.
